We’re hiring an Assistant Maintenance Manager to support a small portfolio of apartment communities in Renton, WA. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys being in the field, leading by example, and making sure work is done right the first time.
If you’re a strong maintenance professional who also knows how to manage people, keep crews productive, and take ownership, this is an excellent long-term opportunity with a stable operation and a respectful, safety-first culture.
✅ Must-Haves (Please Read Before Applying)
3+ years of hands-on apartment, facilities, or trades maintenance experience
Prior crew leadership or supervisory experience (required)
Strong skills in:
Light plumbing (toilets, sinks, angle stops)
Basic electrical (switches, outlets, heaters)
Drywall, painting, and basic carpentry
Finish-oriented mindset (your work should function well and look good)
Proven dependability and accountability
Ability to manage and motivate a team of 6–7 technicians
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Able to pass a background check
(No theft or violent offenses; single past DUI may be acceptable, repeat DUIs are not)
Own basic hand tools
Leadership matters more than being perfect at every trade — technical skills can be trained, people management cannot.
What You’ll Be Doing
This is a working Assistant Maintenance Manager role, roughly 50% hands-on / 50% leadership.
Perform and oversee repairs including plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, flooring, appliances, and water heaters
Supervise daily maintenance operations and assign work
Inspect completed work for quality and accountability
Respond to service requests and maintenance emergencies
Manage preventive maintenance to reduce costly repairs
Support unit turns and ongoing property upkeep
Communicate clearly with residents regarding repairs and timelines
Determine when repairs can be handled in-house vs. using outside vendors
Properties are older (60+ years), so strong problem-solving skills are essential.
Medical, dental, and vision insurance
Paid holidays
Paid time off:
Year 1: 1 week
Year 2: 2 weeks
Year 3+: 3 weeks (max)
Why This Role
This is a stable, long-term opportunity for someone who wants to:
Work for ownership that treats people fairly
Be trusted to run a crew and make decisions
Lead without being stuck behind a desk all day
Grow into a higher-level maintenance leadership role over time
