Bouma Corporation is seeking an Entry Level Project Engineer to join our team in Grand Rapids! We are a commercial interior finish contractor, headquartered in Grand Rapids with a branch office in Traverse City. We offer a full range of services, including framing, metal studs, drywall, acoustical ceilings, spray fireproofing, flooring, exterior building finishes, and more.

Job Description:

The Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting the planning, execution, and close-out of a construction project, working closely with the Project Manager. The Project Engineer will work under the direction of the Project Manager and be assigned to multiple concurrent projects. This position also requires supporting the on-site field team as needed, and related to the execution of the project. 

Job Responsibilities:

• Submittals/Shop Drawings: Complete assembly of the submittal package, status tracking, and information sharing with the project team in a manner that supports the project schedule. 
• Job Setup: Input job information into PM/Accounting software.
• Schedule of Values: Assist the PM on the setup of the SOV at Job Setup and provide input on monthly billings based on knowledge of project scopes and percent complete.
• Forecasting: Analyze job cost trends as directed by the PM to assist in projecting final job costs on each project. 
• Job cost trends: Utilize job cost reports and production information gathered to provide weekly cost trend information for review to the PM and Job Leader.
• Manpower Plan: Assist PM in assembling a manpower projection plan, calculating the projected manpower required by week for the duration of a project. 
• Change Management: Complete quantity takeoffs of changes, compile material quotes, and assemble labor changes for deviations from the original contract scope.
• Issue Subcontracts: Generate contracts for sub-labor and subcontractors. 
• Vendor setup requests & coordinating documents: The PE will start the process for a new vendor or subcontractor setup and follow up on status. 
• Track Sub Labor progress vs. billings (SF), verify T&M work: PE to use the sub-labor invoice tracking log for tracking status. 
• Material Tracking: Assist the project team with material quantities, percent complete, including periodic counts of material stored onsite.
• 360 Photo Capture: Using OpenSpace AI, capture weekly progress photos via the 360-degree camera during jobsite walk. Upload and maintain project information.
• Exit Plan: Assemble the project Exit plan with data from PM and Job Leader, manage updates and communication of the plan with the project team.
• Project close-out: Assist in analyzing project cost information and preparing reports for project close-out meetings. Assemble applicable warranties, O&M manuals, attic stock information, and other required closeout documents for each project.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or equivalent work experience in the Construction industry
• 1-3 yrs. experience preferred
• Strong work ethic with interest in learning
• Desire to be part of and a contributor to a winning team
• Knowledge of construction methods
• Computer proficiency with the ability to learn new programs
• Able to prioritize and multitask to meet strict deadlines, with strong organizational skills.
