Construction Controller

The Construction Controller will serve as a key financial partner to Land Development Managers, Procurement, Project Management, and Executive Leadership. This role oversees all financial operations for the Excavation Division, ensuring accurate job costing, strong internal controls, and data‑driven decision‑making that supports operational efficiency and long‑term profitability.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee financial management for excavation projects, including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and variance analysis.
• Monitor project costs and ensure alignment with approved budgets, estimates, and production goals.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and performance reports for the Excavation Division.
• Partner with Project Managers to review job costing, WIP schedules, billing status, and revenue recognition.
• Support the Office Manager with AP/AR, payroll processing, and subcontractor payment workflows related to excavation operations.
• Collaborate with the Equipment Manager to analyze equipment utilization, depreciation, ownership/operating costs, and overhead allocation for accurate job cost reporting.
• Maintain compliance with internal financial policies, GAAP standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with Procurement to manage vendor contracts, pricing agreements, and material cost tracking.
• Assist with internal and external audits, preparing required documentation and financial analyses.
• Evaluate financial performance trends and recommend process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and profitability across the division.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• 3+ years of financial management experience in construction, excavation, or heavy civil industries.
• Strong knowledge of job costing, construction accounting, WIP reporting, and project financials.
• Proficiency with construction accounting systems such as Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Timberline, or similar platforms.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment with multiple active projects and shifting priorities.
